MMF Annual Orchestra Concerts for Schools

Annual Orchestra Concerts for Schools

Each fall as part of MMF's annual Chamber Orchestra Tour, we present 2-3 concerts at Manchester's First Congregational Church free of charge to local school children. The 45-minute concerts are a fun filled musical journey where children learn about orchestral instruments, classical music and composers. The concerts, conducted by Ariel Rudiakov, attract between 600 and 700 children from twelve area schools each year. Children participate in a lively discussion of each piece and a few lucky students are given an opportunity to conduct the orchestra. We welcome home-schooled children to attend our concerts.

Our 2010 Free School Concerts will be held on Thursday, September 23rd. The program will feature excerpts from Mendelssohn’ Sinfonia No. 10, Shostakovich’s Concerto No.1 for Piano and Trumpet, and Beethoven’s String Quartet Op. 95. Our special guests are Adam Neiman, piano and Tom Bergeron, trumpet. Adam was our guest last year and delighted the children with his playing and conversation!

The two concert times on September 23rd are:

Session I: 9:30AM to 10:15AM
Session II: 10:45AM to 11:30AM

Reservations are mandatory for these concerts and are filled on a first come, first served basis. Groups are limited to a maximum of 100 students. Please contact MMF to reserve space for your school or group. The concerts fill up quickly so we look forward to hearing from you soon.

Home Schoolers are Welcome!
